Two new exciting procedures have come along for treatment of stress urinary incontinence in women and in prostatic outlet obstruction in men. The tension-free vaginal tape and SPARC™-sling are now being done for stress urinary incontinence in women. This is a day-surgery procedure, which as proven to be very effective and minimally invasive. No abdominal incision is required and approximately 90% of the women are going home without a catheter.

The transurethral needle ablation (TUNA) is a minimally invasive procedure for prostatic enlargement. It involves the use of low-frequency radio waves to heat the prostate, which ultimately results in its shrinkage and also destroys the alpha-receptor nerve endings around the prostate and bladder neck, which cause outlet obstruction. This is also a day-surgery procedure that requires only two to three days off work and restrictions from the normal activity.
